Tips For Preventing Adult Diaper Rashes

Posted by Andrew on 2021 May 13th

For those who wear adult diapers there's pretty much nothing you want to avoid more than the dreaded rash. Whether wearing while going about your day or having a playdate with your friends, diaper rashes are never any fun. In this blog we'll be discussing ways to reduce your chances of getting one!

Change Often

One of the key ways to avoid getting a rash is to change often and not let a diaper overstay its welcome. For those who wear 24/7, on an average day you'll likely go through a minimum 3 or 4 diapers. That would mean changing every 6-8 hours. Any less than this and you're increasing your chances of rashes! Of course there may be times when you wish to go longer without changing. Just remember to be responsible and change if you being to notice any skin irritation.

Wipe Well

However, just changing frequently isn't enough. Even when changing from one diaper into another, you'll want to make sure that you wipe down well. Don't forget to wipe between your legs where a diaper might tend to rub or chafe. Abena's Unscented Adult-Sized Wipes are perfect for getting this job done. When changing from a used diaper into a clean one, it's best to be clean yourself!

Also, if you have a caregiver changing can be a truly intimate time. It also helps to have someone get those hard to reach areas! So as much fun as it can be to be soggy, don't be afraid to get changed either! Assuming you've been good.

Wear The Right Diaper

Making sure that you're wearing the right type of diaper for the right time of day can also be a good way to reduce the chance of rashes forming. During the day, one of our lower capacity diapers such as the Lil' Monsters, Lil Squirts, or Lil Bella are perfect for those who are active and moving around a lot. For the evenings and night, the Barnyard and Dinosaur provide increased protection and absorbancy.

Use Creams & Powders

Applying cream before diapering up or between changes is a great way to protect the skin and prevent irritation. Abena's Zinc Ointment creates a barrier on the skin that will help those who are sensitive stay comfortable longer in a wet diaper without the need to worry about rashes. Just be sure not to apply too much, as that could cause issues as well.

There's also baby powder which helps repel moisture from the skin and keeps you dry. Plus as a bonus, it smells great! Next to a diaper, I find it's one of the best things that can make you feel small and little. And even for those who find themselves to be more diaper lovers than anything, I encourage you to try it at least once!

Proper Skincare

If you do happen to get a diaper rash there's no need to fret! Abena's Skincare Ointment will help your skin heal and prevent things from becoming further irritated. Not wearing diapers while you have a rash might also speed up the healing process, but no one would blame you if you didn't want to go that far!

This should also go without saying, but showering and bathing is of course an important thing too! Nothing beats soap and warm water when it comes to cleaning up. Not to mention, who doesn't love a bubble bath? It's not necessary to bathe between every change, but especially if you are wearing lots, bathing often is essential! Otherwise, just remember to change appropriately, wipe down well between changes, and apply powder and cream and you should have nothing to worry about!

We hope these tips have given you something to think about in regards to proper skin hygiene. No one wants to get a diaper rash, so follow these steps and have fun wearing diapers!
